Custom Live Edge and River Tables from Locally Harvested Large Trees

Allan Poole and Bob Mueller started Trees to Tables LLC in 2020 based on their mutual interest in trees, love of wood and finding a new life for ancient trees. All our trees are local, domestic species, like oak, ash, maple, hickory and beech. Unlike other custom table manufacturers, no rain forest products are used and we make our own wooden table bases.

The trunks of these trees are typically so large that they are considered too difficult to cut into firewood or grind into mulch. They usually end their many long years of providing shade and beauty by being dumped in a landfill.

If you have a treasured tree that has to be taken down, this does not have to be the end for the tree (or your relationship). We can work with you to give it a second life as a beautiful table or furniture piece inside your home.

We transform these trees into furniture that can provide beauty and function for generations to come.

Tables can be constructed as either “live edge” where the outside profile of the tree determines the edge shape of the table which is made from a single plank or as “river tables” where we cut a straight line through the middle of the slab and then flip the outside edges to the inside where the irregular shape forms a “river” which is filled with colored epoxy.

River tables are typically about twice as expensive as live edge tables because of the greater work involved and the cost of epoxy.

Live edge tables can have many different contours to the outside edges from relatively smooth graceful curves to a funkier more irregular design. No boring rectangles here! Any splits or cracks in the slabs are filled with epoxy of your color choice and reinforced with decorative inlaid “butterflies” in contrasting wood.

Within this general framework, many variations are possible and every table is unique and custom built to your size and design preferences.

All tables are supported by an elegant but extremely strong trestle base with all traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Tables are usually finished with many coats of a sprayed oil urethane varnish polished to a high luster.
